NYPD Union Reacts to Mayor Throwing Them Under the Bus

Last week in the wake of the refusal of a New York grand jury to indict an NYPD cop for the death of Eric Garner, Mayor Bill de Blasio held a press conference in which he said that people of color in New York should fear their police. He included his own (bi-racial) son in that statement. Never mind that a grand jury had exonerated the officer; de Blasio indicted his entire force. Now the union that represents the force is asking that the mayor (and a city councilwoman) be precluded from attending any police funerals.

When de Blasio was elected mayor, it was predicable that something like this would occur. He is a far-leftie, and this is what far-lefties do. It obviously didn't occur to him that it wasn't that many years ago that many NYPD officers lost their lives in the Twin Towers as they rushed in to try and save others.

No, the people of New York-at least the non-white people of New York- should fear the police according to de Blasio.

And then the mayor and Melissa Mark-Viverito had the gall to issue this statement:

"Incendiary rhetoric like this serves only to divide the city, and New Yorkers reject these tactics," they said in joint statement."

De Blasio and Viverito divided the city when they made their remarks about the police. They divided the police from City Hall. They owe an apology to the police and to the city.
