State Department's Double Standard on Home Demolitions

OK for Egypt: Not OK For Israel

Jen Psaki looking for her talking points

For several years now, Israel has had a policy that when Palestinians engage in a terror attack against Israel their homes will be destroyed. Israel has also destroyed homes being used to build tunnels to funnel terrorists into Israel.

The New Egyptian government has recently chosen to demolish entire neighborhoods in the Sinai in order to create a buffer zone with the terrorist state of Gaza.

You may agree or disagree with either policy, but it seems odd that our State Department condemns the Israeli actions but is comfortable with the Egyptian actions. But then again, our State Department is an odd bunch even in the best of administrations. Under Obama, its oddity reaches epic proportions as exemplified by their chief spokeshole, Jen Psaki.

Creating a buffer zone is different from inflicting punishment on an identified family. Its more like clearing houses out of a floodplain and rebuilding elsewhere. Now whether the displaced families are being properly compensated, that would be a legitimate question.
