SPME Weighs in on the AMCHA-Professor Dispute

The below article by Scholars for Peace in the Middle East is rather self-explanatory. It is in reaction to a letter signed by 40 Jewish studies professors upset that the AMCHA Initiative published a list of  university professors who were supporting an academic boycott of Israel.

As somebody who always signs his name to whatever I write, I question why people would want their activism hidden in the shadows especially from prospective students. I am not ashamed of any petition or letter that I have lent my name to. In addition, how is this different from that website, "Rate my professors"?

Seems to me if we are going to engage ourselves in the arena of public discourse on issues of public interest; if we are going to be activists, what's the harm of people knowing where you stand?

I really must say that I find these Jewish anti-Israel activists to be a strange lot, indeed. Of course, it is all part and parcel of being on the far left, where you also find a lot of Americans who hate America. It should also be noted that they sure are quick to cry foul.

I say, Dry your eyes, People. Grow up.

What do you think about the opponents of Prop 8 who compiled lists of people who signed petitions for Prop 8, or donated money to the campaign in pass Prop 8, and sent letters to all their neighbors saying, at some length "You should know that your neighbor, John Doe, is a bigot who opposes marriage equality"?

If I had received such a letter, I would have printed up yard signs reading "I support my neighbor John Doe's right of free speech and freedom of association."
