The saga of UC Santa Barbara professor Mireille Miller-Young is hardly over. The professor who brought national embarrassment to UC Santa Barbara when she bullied a couple of young female pro-life demonstrators on campus is now being sued.

When you hire "professors" like this, you reap what you sow.

Sueing Miller-Young is all good. As you may recall, I supported jail time for her conviction.

Sueing the university is unlikely to fly. She was not acting within the scope of her teaching duties, but was merely expressing a personal animus as she happened to walk by.

The fact that she hasn't been reprimanded reflects poorly on the administration and the faculty, but it is one of those discretionary decisions that really can't be second-guessed by the courts. It doesn't render the university civilly liable for Miller-Young's actions.
