Andrew McCarthy, former federal prosecutor and expert on Islamic extremism, has written a great article in National Review that describes a recent interview of a moderate Shi'ite cleric from Iraq. It contains the text of Ayad Jamal al-Din's comments as well as a link to the interview itself. What is noteworthy is that al-Din says that ISIS is actually following Sharia and the fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence). He also states that these principles are not compatible with Western democracy and that many Western mosques are preaching the imposition of an Islamic caliphate.

This is refreshing honesty from a respected Muslim cleric and scholar who knows what he is talking about-unlike our own president and secretary of state.
