With Border in Chaos, Obama Visits Texas-For Fund Raisers

Barack Obama may go down in history as the president who fiddled while the country was burning. It matters little what kind of crisis is going on; nothing is going to get in the way of golf and fund raisers. Today, after playing pool in Colorado and being offered a joint of marijuana, he flew to Texas, met with Governor Rick Perry and a bunch of religious leaders (why them?) before getting down to real business-attending fund raisers. But visit the border and see for himself what the situation is? No- Jeh Johnson is doing that and keeping him informed. You talk about a disengaged president.

And how that "press conference" where he made his statement about meeting with Perry and took softball questions from the press? Perry wants the border secured. Obama says that is part of his $3.7 billion plan that he wants Congress to send to his desk for signature. Right. Why not secure the border separately and independently then argue about the new bill?

Do you think the media would hammer him on his policies like the DREAM Act, immigration reform, and other messages that have told the Central Americans that he is inviting them in? Hardly. Obama said today that it's because the situation in El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala have gotten so dangerous in recent months and that is the reason families are putting their children in the hands of coyotes and smugglers to get them into the US.

Excuse me, but those three countries have been  extremely dangerous places for the past several years. Nothing has changed in that regard. What has changed is that there is a perception that the US will let them in. And that perception is spot on. Most of that money Obama is asking for is designed to take care of the people who are here and continue to arrive as well as pour into Central America to "help them get their houses in order".  As if we haven't been giving foreign aid to them for decades.

There are certain things that foreign aid cannot buy. When you have crime, gangs and corruption, how is more American money going to change that? Have you noticed that virtually none of these people arriving are from Costa Rica? That's because Costa Rica has a functional country with a good economy and is not plagued with all the problems that exist in the aforementioned three nations.

To be fair, this is not just a result of Democratic administrations and policies. Republican administrations have also failed to close the border. But never has the border situation been as bad as it is now. Drug wars, human trafficking, and drug trafficking have created a situation where any fool could see that there was a need to secure our border. Now this. We have tens of thousands of children arriving with all kinds of diseases from scabies to tuberculous. There are already reports of Border Patrol agents and health care workers being infected. And still Obama will not secure the border. There should already be government planes returning these people to their countries. Unfortunately our laws treat them differently than Mexicans because their countries are not contiguous with ours. These people are apparently entitled to hearings. Endless hearings. The only thing that will alleviate that is that they are being put on buses or planes to other US cities and told to report to ICE in a couple of weeks.

Right.

And they continue to come.
