Sharia Comes to Philly
Merv Mitchell aka Imam Mabul Shoatz This mosque looks like the set of a B grade horror movie
When I read this story about a mosque in Philadelphia, I remember attending a "lecture" by Oakland-based imam Amir Abdel Malik Ali at UC Irvine a few years back. Ali, who as I recall, is originally from Philadelphia, was speaking about how he became a Muslim. Previously, he had been a pot-smoking student body president named Derrick Gilliam at SF State University, which might explain why he became so radicalized. Anyway, in that speech, he described Philadelphia as the center of black Islam in America ( I am paraphrasing and all due apologies to Chicago-based Louis Farrakhan.)
Fast forward to Merv Mitchell, now know as Mabul Shoatz, an imam at a Philadelphia mosque. When one of his flock was caught stealing from the cookie jar, sharia law was applied as Imam Merv and another guy tried to use the thief's hand to make one of those famous Philly cheese steaks. Now Merv aka Mabul finds himself subjected to good old US criminal law.

Memo to Merv: Cutting off someone's hand in the US is against the law. Just another illustration as to why sharia law is not compatible with US law.
Do you know what's in your Philly cheese steak?

I understand there are other and progressively brutal alternatives allowed, like cutting off one foot and one hand on the other side. I can imagine what happens to second offenders.
