“I encourage members of the university community, at both UCLA and at the other nine campuses at this great education institution, to come together, in open dialogue, to discuss the great issues of our day, learn from each other, and work to move our society forward. Harmful, hurtful speech by some hurts us all. We must work to ‘heed the better angels of our nature,’ as Abraham Lincoln said. That is what the University of California really stands for.”

While I welcome Napolitano making a statement, my immediate reaction is: "Is this all there is?" "...heed the better angels of our nature"?

How about something along the lines of you consider the SJP actions to be anti-Semitic, and that this will not be tolerated at UCLA or any other UC campus? How about the threat of suspending SJP and expelling students who engage in this crap?

Frankly, I like the below statement from several organizations responding to the brown shirt tactics of the SJP much better.

That's more like it. Janet Napolitano really needs to wake up.  Quoting Abraham Lincoln and appealing to the better angels of our nature will not work when you are dealing with brown shirts like the SJP.
