Updates on UC Irvine Graduation

                                                                     Official business

As previously reported, UC Irvine has launched a full court press to get President Obama to speak at commencement ceremonies this year probably at rat-infested Angels Stadium (which the Angels are trying to get out of).

Meanwhile, student outcry has led UCI to go back on holding all graduations in one big ceremony and go back to the old format of individual schools  having  their own ceremonies.

At any rate, a group of university honchos has just returned from a boondoggle trip to Washington where they met with White House officials and dumped bags containing thousands of postcards on the White House carpet from students and others asking for the president's presence.

"Administration officials also said they were impressed with the university’s “institutional rankings,” as well as campus diversity, which Parham said is between 65 percent and 75 percent people of color."

(As opposed to people of no color, I suppose. And what does that have to do with it anyway?)

“They said that the goals of our fiftieth and the things we’ve accomplished fall right in line with President Obama’s educational initiative,” said Agrela. “I think it was a good sign that they took our visit and made time for us.”

(President Obama's educational initiative? What educational initiative is that?)

Ramona Agrela. That name rings a bell. Oh yeah.

I wonder if we could get a bust of Raoul Wallenberg at Angels Stadium-dedicated by the President, no less-which by the time graduation rolls around, may be President Vladimir Putin. Now wouldn't that be ironic? I wonder what his education initiative is.

But I digress.
