Marijuana Legalization

"Colorado, here we come, Man"

With all the publicity about Colorado's legalization of marijuana and previous controversy over "medical" marijuana clinics in California, I thought I would post this op-ed by Dr Mitchell Rosanthal in the Wall Street Journal. It pretty much sums up my feelings about the subject.

I fully understand the arguments about marijuana vs other drugs like heroin, cocaine and even alcohol. I have always regarded marijuana as a lesser drug than heroin or cocaine when it came to enforcement, and as a DEA agent, it ranked lower on our scale of priorities. Enforcement efforts at the federal level were pretty much limited to large seizures in the hundreds or thousands of kilos or large growing plantations. Yet, marijuana is still illegal on the federal level and what is happening in Colorado flies in the face of federal law.

But if our country is determined to produce another generation of zombies, in spite of the increasing evidence of marijuana's harm, there's not much I can do about it. I hope Colorado enjoys its new wave of tourists.
