The Investigative Project on Terrorism has an interesting post up today on a Syrian Sunni imam who raised funds in the US last April. Not only does he support the jihadist rebels who are involved in the war against Bashar Assad, he heaped high praise on a US-based charity organization called Syrian Sunrise Foundation.
The Syrian Sunrise Foundation is one of the principle aid organizations in the US being promoted by the Syrian American Council (SAC). One of the most visible members of the board of directors of the SAC chapter in Los Angeles is also the head of the Southern California chapter of the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR), Hussam Ayloush. Ayloush has been on the speaking circuit recently raising support for the rebels fighting against Assad in Syria. He spoke last month at UC Irvine and the following evening in Riverside. In the latter appearance, he told the audience he could recommend some "legitimate" aid organizations they could contribute to. (He did not actually name any during his presentation.) Judging by the website of SAC, the Syrian Sunrise Foundation would be front and center.
It raises this question: Why would the Syrian Sunrise Foundation align itself with a man like Imam Osama Al- Rifai who makes such statements about Jews? For that matter, why would the SAC promote an organization like the Syrian Sunrise Foundation when it (SSF) is linked to a man who makes such statements?
