Representing America at Mandela's Funeral

Hat tip Townhall

Why couldn't he have just sent Joe Biden?

Aside from that tacky act, Obama also had to give one of those "Yes we can" tub thumpers he used on the campaign trail. Is it any wonder nobody respects us anymore?

Send Biden? And miss the chance to be there himself? I wouldn't have passed up such a once in a lifetime opportunity either.

Siarlys,

Quite right, as the Brits would say. Obama went out of sheer opportunism-a chance to shine on the world stage with another great speech.

Interesting how Obama is really not that interested in mourning Mandela, and more interested in doing a "selfie" with a dignitary pastry. It is perfectly understood why "O" decided to go to the funeral besides "sheer opportunism-a chance to shine on the world stage with another great speech." He is inamered of Mandela, the Communist who plotted to bomb South African infrastucture, for which he went to jail. Interesting how Obama's Chicago communist friend Ayers got off easy on his bombing arrest. Mandela was a member of the South Africa Communist Party and a member of the South African Central Committee. Mandela lied about his membership in the Communist Party and fooled a lot of people. Sound familiar. Jesse Jackson though, did admit that Mandela was plotting bombings of hospitals and schools. Mandela ran the Umkhonto we Sizwe, the terrorist wing of the African National Congress (ANC) and South African Communist Party. Mandela was released due to the White minorities fears of the Soviet Communists, Cuban Rebels and East German influx to push the Communist agenda in South Africa. Funny that Obama declared that the Boston Bombers were terrorists that will not be tolerated, yet it was OK for Mandela's bombing plots. In fact, it was so OK, that Obama declared that American flags should be flown at half mast, for a foriegner. It was heartening that many government agencies refused to do so. One thinks about Margaret Thatcher's funeral where Obama refused to attend and she was much more of a leader than Mandela. Maybe because Mandela was a Communist who wanted to "Transform" South Africa by Marxist means, that Obama wanted the flags to fly at half mast. One can get in touch with this admiration when Obama shook the blood soaked hand of Communist and murderer of Cuban Citizens, Raul Castro. But this is not a first, as he bowed to the Saudi Kingand other foreign dignitaries.

Mandela was not a member of the South African Communist Party. It was the other way around. Joe Slovo, General Secretary of the South African Communist Party, was on the ANC's governing committee. Jesse Jackson doesn't know anything about any other subject he's run his mouth on ... why would you consider him an authority on this point? When Mandela was running Umkhonto we Sizwe, it focused on targeting infrastructure, carefully avoiding human casualties. The more indiscriminate bombings I've seen reference to began nineteen years after he was imprisoned -- which is what happens when the mature leadership is taken out of circulation, leaving young hot-heads with nobody to teach them how to do it right. If you can't tell the difference between setting off bombs at the Boston Marathon, and challenging a government that shoots 69 peaceful demonstrators in the back on one day, I don't know how its possible to have a rational conversation with you, Squid. (And we were doing so well just the other day).
