Obama's Disasterous Press Conference

Hat tip  Mediaite and John Speedie for audio

Tap dancing

Did'ya see President Obama's press conference yesterday?

"Yeh, I did."

It was not a good performance as the President basically tap-danced his way through hostile questions about whether 2013 was his worst year as president, his "lie of the year" award, the Obamacare fiasco, and the NSA scandal. Pretty much as expected, Fox News' Ed Henry threw up the hardest questions about the NSA spying. He reminded Obama about his statement 6 months previous that they had pretty much "struck the right balance" and  how that squared with his now accepting a panel's recommendations for NSA reform. He also brought up the clearly false testimony of Intelligence chief James Clapper to Congress that the NSA was not gathering data on Americans (at least "not wittingly").

In response, Obama basically did what he usually does. He threw Clapper under the proverbial bus.

"Ed. You are conflating, first of all me and Mr Clapper."

(Apologies to Tommy Lasorda and the late Al Campanis)

As for the hapless Mr Clapper, last seen on these pages, he was giving NFL football predictions.*

I think his most recent was last week when he tweeted* that the Dallas Cowboys, with their 26-3 lead over Green Bay, had the game locked up. (Green Bay won with a backup quarterback.)

But I digress.

As Henry pointed out, Clapper is inexplicably still in office (as are Eric Holder and Kathleen Sibelius), and Obama basically tap danced his way through the press conference. Meanwhile, over at MSNBC, Chris Matthews, who has a show inexplicably called "Hardball", and recently had a softball interview with the President, might want to take a look at the Henry-Obama exchange and learn what real hardball questions are.

"I don't think that's funny."

* Just kidding about Clapper's football predictions. I do a regular spoof on it.
