Daw'ahfest in Anaheim January 11

The Arabic term, Daw'ah, refers to Islamic outreach, an effort to sell Islam to non-Muslims and win conversions and/or acceptance. On January 11, 2014, Mercy for Mankind, an Islamic outreach organization based in Illinois, will be hosting one such event at the Anaheim Hilton Hotel. The chief speaker will be Zaid Shakir of the Zaytuna Institute at the University of California at Berkeley.

A co-founder of the Zaytuna Institute is Hamza Yusuf,who, like Shakir, is regarded as a moderate by many. Yet, he has a history of questionable statements.

Other listed speakers at this event are Yusha Evans, religious talk show host Eddie of the Deen Show, Pakistani recording artist Junaid Jamshed, and British Daw'ah speaker Abdur-Raheem Green.

"In 2005, Green was barred from boarding a flight with a stopover in Brisbane because he appeared on the Australian government's "movement alert list". This was for extreme views, "including that Muslims and westerners cannot live peaceably together and that dying while fighting jihad is one of the surest ways to paradise and Allah's good pleasure."

(Green has reportedly since moderated his views.)

Here's my question: If this event is to bring the Good News about Islam to non-Muslims, why do they charge $25 to get in? (Pay to be proselytized.)

Here is my answer: Because this is a fund raiser, and that's what these groups do non-stop. Every time you turn around, some Islamic fund raiser is going on. That's why the FBI has to keep investigating all these so-called charitable organizations and what the money is really being used for. 

No doubt there will be much talk of good will and brotherhood at this event since it is Daw'ah-oriented and will tailored for non-Muslim attendees. Yet, if one looks beneath the surface of some of these figures, there are more militant ideas at work.
