Washington Redskins: What Owner Daniel Snyder Should Say
Given the never-ending controversy over the name of the Washington Redskins, is it not time for team owner Daniel Snyder to end his stubborn resistance to a name change. Here is what he should say:
"As owner of the Washington Redskins, I have up till now defended the name of my franchise. After all, the name has endured for many decades and is steeped in the tradition of the National Football League. To change the identity of the team is not easy.
Yet, after long and careful thought, I have become convinced that the name is indeed offensive. President Obama has even weighed in, and I am now convinced that a change in name is necessary and appropriate. To continue to operate under the name "Washington Redskins" is an affront to all Americans.
Accordingly, I am announcing today that upon the completion of the current 2013 season, the name of our team will be changed. I am moving the team to Los Angeles next season, and we shall henceforth be known as the Los Angeles Redskins.
Oh yes. We will also have a new logo".
