I think the Post slant on the story is appropriate. We don't know if this biker was trying to participate in the attack or merely help another biker (who had forced the SUV to stop). It seems to me that the actions of the driver were reasonable under the circumstances. When a bunch of bikers surround you (and your family) force you to stop, and slash your ties, you take action to escape.
Gloria Allred is on the wrong side.

There isn't a word to describe this woman. Or her client. The injured man was part of a gang who terrorized Manhattan that day. And now he is the victim? The victims are the family that he and his friends terrorized are the true victims.
Problem with this is that in NYC, he will probably get a judgment.
P.S.--This guy can't be too smart, kind of like taking a knife to a gun fight, this shows what can happen when you try to box in an SUV with motorcycles.
