Breaking News on the English Defence League

Hat tip Atlas Shrugs

Today, it is being reported that Tommy Robinson and Kevin Carroll  are leaving the English Defense League which they had led. In addition, Pam Geller and Robert Spencer are also breaking their connections with the EDL. The reason is that in their view, the group has been infiltrated with many persons who have racist motivations, a charge that has always been made against EDL. Pam Geller's posting today in Atlas Shrugs I think expresses it best.

I recall a couple of years back I queried an American I know who was involved with the EDL in the UK as to whether there were any anti-Semitic or racist elements, and he assured me there were none. At any rate, I have to take the statements of Geller and Spencer on face value. If they think that the EDL has undesirable elements, that's good enough for me.

The anti-Jihadist movement, as I have said many times, should not be about violence or hatred to any group including Muslims. It is a resistance to an ideology that seeks to subjugate the rest of us. Not all Muslims are part of that ideology.

Part of the problem I sense here is that the more outrageous the actions of the jihadists and the more submissive political leaders are, the more radical will be the response from the people. The people must know that their leaders will protect them from extremists and law-breakers. The actions of extremists like Anjem Choudary and his various organizations like Sharia4UK have been outrageous for years to the point that they are trying to enforce sharia zones in certain parts of cities where they reside. Of course, the Brits are fed up, yet you have pusillanimous leaders like David Cameron and his predecessors, who will not clamp down. I haven't even mentioned the bombings of July 7, 2005 the killing of the British army soldier recently, and public pronouncements of more killings to come.

When common people sense that their leaders will not protect them from this crap, of course you will get groups like the EDL. Unfortunately, you can't always control who shows up.

That sounds a bit like David Duke quitting the Ku Klux Klan on the grounds that it had become a racist organization.
