This week, I was listening to former UN Ambassador Bill Richardson describing Rodman's trip as "a good thing" because he might bring about the release of Korean-American prisoner Kenneth Bae. Well, apparently, Rodman didn't have time for that sort of thing as he angrily reminded inquiring reporters.
Such is the state of our diplomacy these days. We pin our hopes on clowns like Dennis Rodman to handle relations with North Korea and achieve results. One might ask why we don't leave it to the professionals like Madeleine Albright, Jimmy Carter, Hillary Clinton, John Kerry, Samantha Power, and Susan Rice.

The word "pathetic" jumps to mind every time I read about the numerous topics exposing the ineptitude of this administration.

Who is expecting this, exactly? Everything I've read treats this as an oddity more than anything. Richardson was just trying to find some kind of silver lining. It's not like it was his idea to have Rodman go there.

Richardson could have laughed it off as a joke instead of hoping that Rodman would bring back the prisoner.
Why do I have the feeling that if he talked about it and DIDN'T mention the prisoner, you would be saying: "Why couldn't Richardson even mention Kenneth Bae?"
Hey, I don't care if John Kerry, Dennis Rodman, or Alfred E. Newman can get Bae out. Obviously, Kim is willing to listen to Rodman more than anybody else, so why not at least bring it up?

I think you answered your own question. Rodman apparently did not bring it up and didn't care. They talked basketball.
