Norway and United Arab Emirates: "Friendship forever"
Europe has been buzzing recently over the dilemma of a Norwegian woman working for a Swedish firm based in Qatar who made a business trip to Dubai (UAE). While there, she was the victim of a rape. When she reported it to the police, she herself was charged with a crime of having illicit sexual relations. She has now been sentenced to a year and a half in prison. Currently, she is still in UAE but holed up in a church that has taken her in. Meanwhile, her company has fired her for her "unacceptable conduct". Furthermore, it is reported that the managing director of the company and the man who fired her is none other than the husband of US pop star, Janet Jackson, Wissam Al Mana..

Of course, Norway is a nation run by jellyfish for politicians. They should be demanding the return of their citizen and cutting off all ties with UAE until she is home.

No doubt the National Right to Work Committee is vigorously upholding the employer's right to make any dispositions it wishes to with regard to what constitutes acceptable behavior and service. Employment at will, n'est-ce pas? For any reason or no reason.
Anyone who has ever spent time on the ground in the countries right around the Arabian peninsula has written that this is how rape is handled there. No woman of virtue would put herself out in public in a position where a man would have access to attempt to rape her, and if she complains, the police will arrest her. Its standard procedure in several countries in the region.
Thus, the real question is, why would any country or company not adhering to such standards invest money there, or send employees on assignment there? Or, if they do, why don't they pay for suitable escorts to take the employees from a "safe" hotel to a "safe worksite in "safety"? Considering the many reputable corporations who do invest in the region, what does that say about capitalism?
Wow. Talk about a downweave.
