LAUSD Trying to Strongarm Victims of Child Abuse

Hat tip Hot Air and John and Ken Show

Last year, I posted a story on a child sex abuse case in Los Angeles-one that was unusually shocking. It involved a teacher blindfolding his students in class and feeding them cookies laced with his own semen.

This case highlighted the fact that the accused teacher had been the subject of many accusations of sex abuse over the years and nothing was done. It also highlighted the fact that LA Unified School District has been unable to get rid of problem teachers over the years.

Hot Air is running with this story in light of recent developments.

This week, the John and Ken radio talk show in LA (KFI) interviewed the attorney for the victims' families. Keep in mind that most all of these families are low-income Mexican families.

Here is what is also interesting. The website set up by the LA Unified School District addressing their settlement officer is supposed to be directed to the public at large. Yet, it is in Spanish. You have to click to see it in English. What does that tell you about whom the message was really addressed to?

If you guessed the victims' families, you would be right.

So, what's your point? I read the headline, but the text doesn't live up to it.

Are you saying the settlement offer isn't enough? That's plausible.

Are you saying the web page should be in English? If so, why?

Are we supposed to click on and read five different links to get an idea of what Gary's original contribution to the controversy is?

Siarlys,

You mean you read the headline but didn't have the time to read the links, so you ask me what the point is? C'mon, if you are going to comment, do your homework. I posted this story when the arrest was made and linked it here. The city school district is offering a sum of money to each victim. They are represented by an attorney. They have rejected the settlement. This ad is falsely labeled as addressed to the public at large complete with a ticking time clock to accept the settlement. Yet it is written in Spanish with a link to read it in English. They are trying to imply the victims will get nothing if they don't accept the deal. They are trying to do an end around the attorney representing the clienets.

Why didn't you say so? No, I don't have time to click on five different links and read five different articles. I expect something original from the site I did click on, with the links being background for those who want to look behind the story.

I want to know what YOUR take is. I don't need a Readers Digest of the Internet.

The clients and their attorney can probably sue the city for communicating in any other way BUT through their attorney, once council has filed their notice of appearance.

Siarlys,

Providing links for background is standard blog practice. That is what I did. I could have written an entire historical essay on the case, but instead chose to link my original post on it as well as the reporting sites on the recent action by LAUSD. Had I done the former some wise guy (like you) would want to know my sources.

If you want to jump in and challenge me, don't be lazy. Read it all.

Cheer up, Siarlys. The Cubs won yesterday.

Siarlys appears to be an awfully busy man, not enough time to spend 5-10 minutes hitting a few links and reading them.

If those links have ANYTHING worth reading, it takes longer than 5-10 minutes. Your right I'm a busy man. I have to earn my living -- don't think I could live on social security until I'm 70, and I'm not verging on 65 yet. I also try to devote some of my time to events in the real world, much as I enjoy chewing the fact with all of you.

Links are good as background. But its hardly worth coming to this site if you're just going to say "Here, read these links, they're good." I look to Google for finding my a list of links. I look to Fousesquawk for original commentary NOT available elsewhere.

Fine, Siarlys. Don't take the the time to catch up to the story. But don't come back and criticize my take on it.
