Issa Says IRS Probe Leads Back to Washington

Chuck Schumer defends Eric Holder

The below Yahoo news report is based on an interview of Rep. Darrell Issa by CNN's Candy Crowley (who distinguished herself when it comes to impartiality in the presidential debate she single-handedly ran off the tracks). In it, he expresses his belief that the IRS probe of conservative groups like the Tea party was directed by Washington, based partly on a interview one of his investigators had with an IRS employee (not named). Issa also calls White House press spokesman Jay Carney "a paid liar".

"Did I hear my name?"

Is there an objective thought in Senator Schumer's head? He goes back to the Fast and Furious scandal and boasts that Holder survived that one, so he should survive this one. Eric Holder lied repeatedly before Congress over F and F, just as he has done in the IRS scandal and the AP-Fox news scandal. The "fact" that his own IG cleared him of any wrong-doing in F and F speaks volumes about just how corrupt the Justice Department has become. When you have government officials effect investigating their superiors, you are asking for a white wash. I knew that when I was in DEA. You can't investigate your boss; someone higher or outside the chain of command has to do it. When the suspect is the attorney general himself, the only correct approach is an independent counsel. Instead, we get the DOJ IG, who limited the damage to levels well below Holder.

We have also seen the so-called investigation of Benghazi by a  State-appointed "outside" team headed by a former career diplomat named Thomas Pickering and retired Admiral Michael Mullen that didn't even bother to interview the secretary of state herself, Hillary Clinton. In her own words, Clinton told Senator Rand Paul when she was testifying that the investigators had clearly placed blame for the failures of Benghazi at the asst. secretary level and below.

"I am the Secretary of State", said Clinton in her lead up to that statement.

Chuck Schumer wouldn't recognize a cover-up if someone wrapped him in a Christmas box, ribbons and all.

As if field agents in Phoenix dreamed up the idea of letting thousands of weapons sail into Mexico so the administration could prove after they were seized that most of the guns in Mexico were coming from the US. Right.

As if IRS agents in Cincinnati decided on their own to target conservative groups like the Tea Party and even pro-Israel groups. Right. Anybody who has ever served in federal law enforcement knows better.

*Update: Daily Caller is publishing partial transcripts of an interview by congressional investigators with an IRS official in Cincinnati.

"It’s impossible,” an IRS employee responded to an investigator’s question about the allegations that the targeting of conservative groups was due to “two ‘rogue agents.” “As an agent we are controlled by many, many people.  We have to submit many, many reports.  So the chance of two agents being rogue and doing things like that could never happen.”

But there is good news: President Obama has tasked Eric Holder with doing an investigation and getting back to him.

Well, Issa would, wouldn't he?
