So much for the idea of securing the border before granting amnesty to the 11 million or so illegal aliens in this country. It ain't never going to happen. It's going to be 1986 all over again, and in another 10-15 years we will be doing the same thing again.

And what is with this guy Marco Rubio (who I was thinking should be the presidential candidate in 2016)? He is talking out of both sides of his mouth. He tells Sean Hannity one thing about the border fence then tells Univision (Spanish-language news network) another. Hey Marco! How about deciding what you think is right and fight for it-even if you lose? How do you expect to become president if you say one thing today and something different the next day?

Border Security, eh? Nice title, but it provides for instant amnesty without the border first being secured. You talk about a bait and switch. (Hat tip John Speedie and Dick Williams)
I have another question: When these 11 million are granted legal status, does that mean that those who hire them have to pay them minimum wage with all the normal employment benefits? I am not taking a position here, but merely pointing out that if business really wants cheap labor, what's to stop from another wave of illegal aliens coming in to work for peanuts-and take jobs away from the newly-legalized workers?
Unintended consequences-or a conscious effort to keep cheap labor (Republicans) and future voters (Democrats) flowing in?
The fact of the matter is that this dance will never end until our border is secured. Drug smuggling will also continue unabated. And don't forget that little cartel war going on just over the border and the human trafficking, kidnappings etc.
And these bozos in Washington don't want to secure the border first?

Your retraction was a wise move.
They ALWAYS name bills the exact opposite of what it does. I give you the "Affordable Health Care Bill" which is anything but affordable. Numerous "Stimulus" bills stimulated nothing except the few who got a commish or sweet contract here or there. Social Security hardly provides "security."
This particular bill already weighs 4 pounds and is so riddled with waivers and exceptions so as to make it worthless. Supposedly it required you to have a clean arrest record. Then they put in the host of waivers. When Republicans introduced a bill to cancel the waiver for drunk driving convictions, it was voted down. Then they introduced an amendment that you don't get a waiver if yu have THREE drunk driving convictions (a habit already) but that was voted down.
Bottom-line, the Democrats need a permanent under class so they can get votes from them. The Republicans were frightened that they would lose Hispanic-American votes.
The problem is that Democrats always play to one constituency or another... teachers, gays, Muslims, union workers, government workers, etc., etc.
The Republican were tempted to go down that path. They should focus on what is beneficial for the WHOLE country, not this group or that. I expect Hispanic voters are not one issue automatons and would vote for what would be good for the country as a whole... including immigration preferences for those with skills we need and not just bringing them in because they are from the third world... thanks to Ted Kennedy for screwing that up.
As long as the border is not secure the same illegal immigration process will continue.
