A Note of Common Sense From Ralph Peters

Ralph Peters is an ex-military officer and expert on terrorism, whom you may have seen on Fox News. He is a man who speaks with uncommon common sense. In this NY Post op-ed, he argues that the US should get out of the Middle East, let them fight their own wars, and stop their own wars. I agree.

Unfortunately, we have a secretary of state (John Kerry) who doesn't have much common sense. This week, he is shuttling around the Middle East searching for the Holy Grail (peace). In Amman, Jordan, he announced that the US is prepared to increase aid to the Syrian rebels so "they can make their country free and eat lots of hearts".

"Ah wunnerful, ah wunnerful, ah."

(Hat tip John Speedie and Jim Healy (who also had common sense).

Getting out of the middle east and let them fight their own wars makes a lot of sense.

That includes Israel, right?

And we can do without Saudi oil, right?

So we're going to develop alternative energy sources that don't rely on the global oil market, right?

Kind of hard for Israel to get out of the Middle East.

And if the illustrious John Kerry should manage to somehow get a "cease-fire" in the region, I would bet the mortgage that, as usual, the first violation would come from Arabs/Muslims. Any takers?? Siarlys??

No elwood, but if WE are going to get out of the middle east, that INCLUDES that Israel is on its own... they can rise or fall by the consequences of their own policy choices, with no blank check from the U.S. taxpayer. OR, if we are involved in some sort of support of Israel, then we have to be concerned about everything else going on in the region.

Can't have it both ways.

(They're all trigger-happy over there elwood. Even money is all anyone should bet on a proposition like that.)

Somehow, I have this sneaking suspicion, call it a hunch if you want (and no, I can't really prove it) that our support for Israel has, either directly as part of the deal or in some way(s) more indirectly, helped to prevent Israel's use of nuclear weapons to date.

That will not be the case when/if Iran, Syria, et al get them and use them almost instantly against Israel or us. And please don't talk to me about India and Pakistan, that is, according to Siarlys' term, apples and horseapples (credit where due).
