The Question of Apostasy

Hat tip Vlad Tepes

"Said Rageah was born in Somalia, raised in Saudi Arabia, moved to the US in the late 1980s (holds a BA in Islamic studies and a Masters in Sharia from the Institute of Islamic and Arabic Sciences in Fairfax, Virginia), served as imam in Maryland and Calgary, then moved to Toronto where he currently serves as an Imam at Abu Huraira Islamic Center."
-Vlad Tepes

Well this is a little different from the explanations about apostasy that I have heard from folks here in the US like Muzammil Siddiqi and Maher Hathout, but I like to get it from the horse's mouth. Imam Rageah was asked about apostasy at this speaking event, and here is what he said.

Yeah, Gary, you're two of a kind. You both just HAVE to believe that Islam means slaughtering unbelievers, each for your own reasons. Nobody upholds the authenticity of this creep like you do.

Siarlys,

It's not like I am putting words in his mouth. I don't make this stuff up. I rely on what they themselves say. people like Siddiqi are lying to us through their teeth. Too bad you can't debate yourself with this guy. I think he knows more about Islamic ideology and shariah than you do.

No, Gary, you don't put words in his mouth. You simply amplify his words, give him a wider audience, take him SERIOUSLY, all because you want to believe that he is the voice of Islam.

For him or you or anyone to say that he "knows more about Islamic ideology and shariah than you do" is like a Jehovah's Witness and a Roman Catholic arguing about who "knows more" about the Bible.

I'd love to debate the guy. I would start with asking him about the Rashidun caliph's close collaboration with Jewish residents of the area around Jerusalem, and in Iberia, and the Jewish admiral of the Ottoman fleet. (With a little time to prepare, I could debate the Qu'ran with him too).

Siarlys,

He has the facts on his side-not to mention the texts and the agreement of the leading Islamic schools of thought. You have wishful thinking on your side.
