More Attacks on Ahmadi Muslims in Pakistan

Hat tip Jihad Watch

This past week, the International Herald Tribune published a story on yet another attack against Ahmadi Muslims in Pakistan. This one was actually led by clerics.

In case you are confused, the Ahmadi Muslims are generally not recognized as such by mainstream Islam because they claim that the founder of the Ahmadi branch is the successor to the Prophet Muhammad. This branch was founded in the 19th century in British India. They are considered relatively peaceful though they follow Sharia law and defend the faith. Nonetheless, the Ahmadis are subject to severe persecution by other Muslims in Pakistan and other countries.

Recently, a group of Ahmadi Muslims from Chino, California appeared at UC Irvine. They were sponsored by the Ahmadi Muslim Student Union, a new student organization that is separate and not involved with the main MSU at UCI.

Regarding the " oppression" of the Ahmadi; I am not aware of any religion in the last several hundred years that oppresses and even murders sect members of their own religion. The Shias and the Sunni murder each other in great numbers daily. They murder Alawhites in Syria and I am sure there are other examples.

They also murder Christians, Jews, and Hindus strictly for religious reasons.

I have a friend who probably represents a growing number of foreign policy Libertarians who believe we are following the exact right policy in Syria: "We should let (and even) them help murder each other."

No matter how nice and well spoken any one of them are, they belong to the most intolerant religion who simultaneous claim, more so than any other religion, that the rest of the world is biased and intolerant of them.
