Boston: Let's Hold Off on the Speculation

As I write this, I am reading all the conflicting reports about the bombing in Boston. There is speculation on all sides pointing to different groups who may be responsible. The responsible thing to do is to let the police do their jobs and hold off pointing fingers of blame, which may only hurt innocent people. We will know more soon enough.

So far, Obama has not classified this horrific/murderous attack on our nation as a terrorist attack. Janet Napolitano will probably call it workplace violence. Dain Feinstein did come out and call this an "act of terror".

Definitely agree with you on not jumping to conclusions, Gary. Just very sad. When I lived there I used to watch the finish of the marathon from my office window. It was always such a joyful day in Boston. Now ruined by some idiot or group of idiots who like to hurt and kill people. I do hope this time we can find who was responsible and punish them to the fullest extent of the law.

Really! Hold off speculation?

What other group sets off bombs timed to go off at nearly the same time to also murder the first responders?

Excluding the obvious terrorists, the only ones outside this group who have committed terrorist acts are Timothy McVeigh (some 18 years ago) and Bill Ayers (some 40 years ago or so - he bombed a police station, the capital, and the pentagon over a 3 year period.)

Have I forgotten anyone else that targets civilians, not military people?

The Tea Party (accused of spitting at a congressman, never proved or prosecuted)? The Skinheads, or any other enemies of the left, as far as I know, never planted any bombs.

Even the Occupy people typically only smash storefronts and are generally a hygienic risk, but they don't plant bombs to kill defenseless people.

I don't know of any Born Again Christians, Mormons, Jews, Catholics, Methodists, Episcopalians or even Amish that plant bombs or even worse, imbed ball bearings and screws in bombs to maximize injuries.

So simply by process of elimination, not proof certainly, but typical of what goes on in Pakistan, Iraq, and Afghanistan on practically a daily basis, as you point out, you are left with the Religion of Peace.

Miggie,

What if I guess wrong and say this must be Muslims? Already people are blaming conservatives, republicans, Tea Party, Muslims, etc. Someone is going to have egg on their face.

I hardly envision myself getting the scoop on this.

Be patient.

Last month, the Al Qaeda "Inspire" magazine which is out of the AQAP, inspired jihadists to bomb America, the U.S. President and his leaders. The request went out to Lone Wolves. The multiple blasts and the alleged ball bearing projectiles smack of Al Qaeda trade-craft. I would say that there is a high probability of Al Qaeda in the picture.

I agree with you Gary 100% , just be patient
Don't blame any one before you really know, or you are definitely being unfair!

Actually , I'm so surprised by the hate for muslims I found her!

Any terrorist ( no matter what is his religion ) will find his punishment with the law of the universe before the law of any country!

Not much of an "egg on your face" risk, it seems to me. Let me rule out some other popular tactics used recently: Nobody dressed in a Batman costume and shot up anyone; nobody went into a shopping mall to kill a congressman; attempted to shoot any bullies at his school... It seems to me that the only missing item is anyone at the time or (on tape, yet) shouting Allah Akbar!

It is like another of your "What Happened in Afghanistan Today?" questions, only this time it is Boston, USA.

I'm willing to bet you another beer on it.

I think that holding off on speculation, especially with something like this, is always a good policy.

Even if you speculate correctly, it's not like there is some sort of a prize that you get for it.

Miggie,

remember Oklahoma City? What were the initial reports? In Atlanta, Richard Jewell was the initial suspect.

Squid, you're either lying or pathetically uninformed... again. Its been headlines for over 24 hours that the president DID call this a terrorist act.

Miggie, there is a good possibility the perp will turn out to be Muslim. Does that make it more important or less important to prosecute him?
