Bill Clinton Calls for End of Bill He Signed

Hat tip Breitbart

Famed marriage expert Bill Clinton is back in the news. He is calling for an end to the Defense of Marriage Act, which he signed in 1996.

Am I supposed to write a long treatise here, or what?

I suppose if we're cynical we can say that he signed it even though he never believed in it in the first place.

However, I think it's more likely that he's changed his mind on the issue, just as so many Americans have over just the last few years. For instance, last I read, support for gay marriage is now polling 2 to 1 in California, despite it being the state that passed Prop 8. If put to another vote, I doubt it would fare as well.

This is on top of the fact that nationwide, the majority now supports it (although still a slim one).

Clinton's a politician through and through, and while I wouldn't put it past him to just go with the flow of public opinion, it's also not so hard to believe that he could have a change of heart. So many people already have.

Jakes,

Possibly. I am against it, but I don't think it is a major issue compared with other things. I am becoming more sympathetic to their positions and concerned about persecution in other parts of the world. Gay marriage is not something I wish to waste my energy fighting. I don't condemn homosexual behavior and don't care who lives with whom, has sex with whom or loves him. It's a private matter.
