As we continue to wait for the Ft Hood terrorist shooter to go on trial, the Army still refuses to recognize the victims. They insist that awarding them Purple Hearts would compromise the trial.

Is it possible that the Defense Dept fears that this act would give Nidal Hasan some kind of enemy combatant status and muddy the waters as to who should try him or what offense to charge? How about treason? Murder is murder, but to call this "workplace violence" seems to be an exercise in political correctness. It was an act of violent jihad as to motive.
This is the same Defense Department that decided to give Distinguished Warfare Medals to those who man the computers that launch killer drones (now under review). I thank them greatly for their service, but I have to question the level of the medal.

And don't forget that Bronze Medal (higher than a Purple Heart) to the Air Force chaplain who designed a politically-correct training course on Islam for the troops.

I won't go into the cuts in funding and manpower.
Given the above, how can you deny Purple Hearts (and the level of authorized care that goes with them) to those wounded at Ft Hood?

The answer to this question is: The Islamist terrorists count more than our honorable men and women that serve our counrty to protect and defend it. And, the Islamists know this.

They should have the care their injuries require, purple hearts or no.
But if a purple heart is for wounds or injuries in active combat, one could legitimately question whether being shot by a crazed fellow soldier on a military base within the continental U.S. is quite what the medal is about.
Fellow soldier Siarlys?! Hassan had a card printed and passed out with the words"Soldier of Allah". So, Allah is Hassan's Commander and Chief, not the U.S. President. Got to get these thinks straight.
Squid
He was in a U.S. army uniform, subject to military discipline, at the time of the shootings.
The fact that he broke discipline is why he is being court-martialed. The fact that he killed people is why he faces possible execution, or a very long prison sentence.
What are you trying to do, Gary and Squid? Give the defendant lawful combatant status under the Geneva convention?
Hardly. This bum deserves the death penalty for mass murder and treason. No way a US Army soldier can claim lawful combatant status under the Geneva Convention. He should have been tried, convicted, sentence and executed by now. Giving every benefit to the victims should not compromise the case against Hasan.
