Are Girls in US Subject to Forced Female Genital Mutilation?

Hat tip Trust Law

Not according to the law because it is illegal here. It is also illegal in Europe. The problem is that many immigrant families who come from countries or cultures where this is practiced are sending their daughters back to the homeland to have the procedure done. The below report is from Trust Law.

Often, when I write about issues like this, I check out the website for the National Organization of Women, do a search and point out that they are not involved or interested. In this case, I must point out that they are. There are several articles on the topic.

I concur with the recommendations outlined in the Trust Law report. I would go further, however. Should not our State Department and Immigration authorities consider whether visa applicants might be susceptible to this practice? After all, we have every legitimate reason to prevent this scourge from being committed in our country.
