Academia in Norway

Hat tip Gates of Vienna

"It's only fair."

If you think the US is the only country infested with loony people in academia, think again. Consider Norway, another European country seemingly bent on national suicide. Meet Kim Angell, a 33-year-old PhD student at Oslo University, who thinks Norway should carve out a piece of its territory to give to refugees as some sort of an autonomous region.

“All people, regardless of place of birth or background, should ideally have the same opportunity to create good, meaningful lives for themselves. When national border controls become obstacles to achieving this, the current system where states have full control over their own borders should be questioned.”

I am sure Mr Angell will go far in academia. perhaps, we will be fortunate enough to have him come and speak at UC Irvine someday.

I want my own piece of Switzerland.

But really Gary, do you think anyone in Norway is taking this guy seriously, just because he published a paper?

I wonder how long it will be before the Native Norwegians are sent to an autonomous region and the Muslims get the rest of the nation?

I liked this response to the piece:
"Luck? Luck has nothing to do with it. The ancestors of today’s Norwegians created Norway, improved it and handed it to their children, who generation after generation, despite famine, war and disease, strove to do the same. They succeeded in creating a fine country where people could be free. Only a Norwegian stricken with a mental illness would want to give it away to people whose ancestors created nothing but misery and poverty and whose culture is based on century after century of slavery, intolerance and oppression."
