Somebody is missing the point here. Not that I am defending the negligence and incompetence of the officials involved, but I still refuse to believe that the fears of possible attacks in Benghazi never reached Clinton's desk and her eyes and ears. (Yes, I believe she lied as to that point in her testimony.) To merely fire the officials under her, in my view, would be the height of hypocrisy. It is she who should have resigned or been fired. It is she who should be considered unfit for any further office.
Clinton's defenders are insisting that she has taken "full responsibility" as secretary of state for what happened in Benghazi. Yet, we know from long experience that the phrase "the buck stops here" is symbolic. It is easy to say that one takes responsibility for the mistakes of their underlings. It is quite another to come clean and say, "I screwed up. I did this or I didn't do that."
And as to Susan Rice, it is Clinton, the secretary of state, who, when asked why she let Rice go on the Sunday talk shows instead of her to spout that video protest nonsense, said that there were other things she would rather do on a Sunday morning. I am sure Ms Rice would have rather done something else on a Sunday morning as well. Chalk up another career left in the dust by the Clintons.
Once again, Hillary Clinton is being let off the hook to waltz away on her way to bigger things in the future.
