The Diversity Industry at USDA
"My fore-fathers were imperialistic American running dogs."
Decades after the American people got the message about treating minorities fairly, the diversity industry, spawned as part of that effort, still thrives. I saw it when I was in government, and I have seen it in academia. Now comes this report out of the US Dept. of Agriculture on the type of diversity training employees are forced-yes, forced to undergo.

When I was in government (US Dept. of Justice/DEA, retired in 1995), the USDA was the largest department in government. All the overseas embassies had a USDA attache, whose job was to promote US agricultural sales to the countries they were stationed in. Bull semen was one of the big imports in those days, as I recall.
So now, USDA employees have to go to these mandatory seminars and chant, "Our forefathers were illegal immigrants."
The truth is that diversity training has become an industry in itself, where college-trained professionals go from place to place as diversity coordinators and put on these classes. As I stated, attendance is mandatory, and a form goes into your personnel file to the effect that you have attended one of these boondoggles. A couple of years before I retired, I had to take a diversity course with a written test at the end. The theme of the course was that "Affirmative action is for everybody".
The directions informed me that if I failed the test, my supervisors would be informed in writing. When I sent the test packet in, I asked in the comment section why that message was in there (Was it an implied threat?). The answer came back, "This is a service we do for all our employees."
A service.
Here is my message to the government and academic bean-counters: The need for re-education has passed. We get it. We need these diversity coordinators today as much as we need elevator operators.
And no, my fore-fathers were not illegal immigrants.

When the Establishment lines up for Affirmative Action, its time to move on, do some creative thinking, and come up with an improved approach.
