I remember way back in 1966 when I was going through MP School at Ft Gordon, Georgia. A couple of us slackers forgot to shave one morning and were called out by our crusty old sergeant. As punishment, we had to shave with a rusty blade and without water. That was back then.
But today, we live in a world where Nidal Hasan (a major, no less) goes on a murder rampage in the name of jihad, and it is classified as "workplace violence". Awaiting trial, Hasan has refused to shave, something all soldiers are required to do. Finally, a military appeals court-a military appeals court- has decided that Hasan can be forcibly shaved.
I wonder where that crusty old sergeant is now that we need him.

The crusty old sergeant is probably shaving Nidal Hasan.
I hope with a dull rusty blade and no water. Or would that be cruel and unusual??
It would elwood. Military regulations are obeyed for the good of the service, not abused to inflict extrajudicial pain.
His sentence will be no picnic.
