It has now begun. Aside from those voices in the Middle East and Pakistan who are demanding that the US curtail any speech they find offensive, now an American Islamic group is petitioning President Obama to pass legislation that would make it illegal to criticize or mock Islam.

Let me add my two cents worth. I hope these people were watching the President's speech before the UN today because he threw cold water on your request. Free speech is free speech. He can't stop it. I think it would behoove the letter writers to do some introspection as to why Muslims commit mayhem and murder over any criticism of Islam. Of course one reason Islam gets so much attention is because of the mayhem and murder.
I also note the letter's reference to violence being against Islam if it is out of pure rage as opposed to doing one's religious duty. Are they confirming that violence is a part of religious duty?
If we are going to prosecute people because they make a video mocking Mohammed and Islam, we will also prosecute people for trying to have an honest discussion about Islam or protest against Islamic terror or violence. This is already the case in supposedly-free Europe. Just ask Geert Wilders or Elisabeth Sabaditsch -Wolff.
Just who do these people think they are that they can come here and demand that we take away our First Amerndment rights just because they are offended?. We are offended too when our ambassador is murdered and our flag is burned. We wer4e offended big time on 9-11. I don't see anybody calling for an end to the blasphemy of Judaism and Christianity, much of which comes from Muslim quarters. Then again, I don't see Jews and Christians rioting in the streets over perceived insults.
If these characters want to live in a society where criticism of Islam is against the law, they have a lot of other countries to choose from. Nobody is keeping them here.

" Nobody is keeping them here. " The point, Gary, is that they want to impose their culture on us. They have to pretend, like the president does, that Muslims are and have always been an important part of our history and culture.
I have never seen a Muslim hospital or a Muslim library or a Muslim signatory on the Constitution. I read where we fought one of our first wars against Muslim pirates and kidnappers. Interesting that they have not moved on and they are still doing the same thing.
Unless we get a new president, this one will cave in to demands like this... incrementally perhaps at first but ultimately we will have as much trouble with the Muslims as the French and the Swedes and the Dutch among others.
