Romney Gaffes? What Gaffes?

The left-wing media, especially the mad hatters at MSNBC, are having a field day talking about Mitt Romney's "gaffes" while traveling to London, Israel and Poland. I say, "What gaffes?"

1 London

Was it a gaffe when Romney, asked about any concerns he might have about London's preparedness for the Olympics (in light of the obvious terror threat and a security firm strike), said, that yes he was concerned. Perhaps he should have come up with a nice diplomatic response, but his answer was simply honest. Anybody who is not concerned about security at this event is a fool.

                                                             "What? Me worry?"

2 Israel

Romney lavished praise on Israeli culture while not giving any shout outs to the culture of the Palestinians.

So what? He wasn't there to visit the Palestinians. He was there to visit the country he supports-in stark contrast to President Obama. Besides, what can you say about Palestinian culture-unless you want to praise their ability to make bombs, throw old men in wheelchairs off of boats or raise their kids to be suicide bombers?

This is culture?

3 Poland

So while Romney was participating in a solemn ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Polish Soldier, some dopey reporters (probably Americans) were shouting questions to him about his "gaffes", and an aide tells them to "shove it". Oh, the outrage.

Where was all that outrage when the prospective first lady Teresa Heinz Kerry was telling a reporter to shove it?

"I can do it in 5 languages."

And did you get a load of that load Lawrence O'Donnell solemnly telling his MSNBC audience about Ann Romney's $990 shirt and proclaiming that" the Romney family was so out of touch with the 99% of other Americans"?

"Yeh, I did."

No, my loyal readers; O'Donnell didn't bring up Michelle Obama's $6,800 jacket (which as far as I am concerned, she is perfectly entitled to if she can afford it).

Gaffes? This is a gaffe.

I pretty much agree with you. However, I know that if Obama did the exact same thing, each one would get their own entry on your blog, each one accompanied by that dancing Obama cartoon. (With the possible exception of #2.)

Don't pretend like you wouldn't.

It's called RomneySHAMBLES, not gaffes.

And while he was in Israel, did he explain about what happened to the Ten Lost Tribes?

Good call on the Kerry/Romney comparison, because that is exactly the kind of boring candidate that Mitt is shaping up to be. Hope you're ready for four more years of Obama.

Anonymous 703,

Obama gaffes? Like "You didn't build that"? I got'cha covered.

You mean this:

"Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business — you didn’t build that..."

The "that" being in reference to the roads and bridges? Are you saying that those business owners DID build the roads and bridges?

Once again you show your shameless partisanship, as I have read several instances where you have criticized liberals for taking quotes out of context and twisting their meanings. The "you didn't build that" is exactly that - but you're okay with it because your side is doing the lying.

WOW! So "that" was referring to building bridges and roads, not the business?

Even if that is what he was referring to, if I build a business on Main Street, and it becomes successful, it was only because the government built Main street and the bridge that led to it?

Nice try.

Obama should fire his speech writer, but one of the main functions of government is to develop the infrastructure no single business can build on its own, which are necessary both for prosperity and for safety and human comfort. That can't be done by shrinking government until it is so small you can drown it in a bathtub. It costs money, which means someone has to pay some taxes to sustain it. Abraham Lincoln pushed roads and railroads because he knew how his father remained dirt poor without access to markets for the produce of his farm.

The Democrats of that day, direct ancestors of today's Republicans, blocked all such measures. One result of secession and the Civil War was passage of the Homestead Act, and the bill to construct the Pacific Railroad. Of course, relying on the private sector generated powerful oligopolies that the Populists had to fight against.

And yeah, Romney is shaping up very much like Kerry, except Kerry was well ahead at this time in 2004, and Romney isn't.

Wow. Do you really think that's what he was saying? Here's the full paragraph:

"If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business — you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen. The Internet didn’t get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet."

Saying that a business owner had some help is not the same thing as saying that they were only successful because of what others did.

You are really determined to be offended by what he says, aren't you? Or, more likely, you're determined to be offended at what he DIDN'T say. (The really funny thing is that Mitt Romney, after criticizing Obama on this quote, basically went on to say the exact same thing. Why aren't you mad at him too? No, wait, I know why.)

Dear Anonymous,

Maybe we should all credit to George Washington.
