The United States strongly condemns the recent attacks on innocent civilians in Nigeria, including yesterday's disgraceful assault during church services at Bayero University in Kano. We are concerned about attacks on churches, news media, and government installations that increasingly target innocent civilians across Northern Nigeria. We condemn attempts by those in Nigeria who seek to inflame Christian-Muslim tensions, and support those who recognize Nigeria’s ethnic and religious diversity as one of the country’s greatest strengths. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of those who were killed and injured.

This is the reaction of Hillary Clinton and our State Department to the on-going series of murderous attacks on Christians in Nigeria and their churches by the Islamic terrorist group Boko Haram, who seek to install an Islamist regime in Nigeria. What is missing here? State still refuses to designate Boko Haram as a terrorist organization.

"U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Africa Johnnie Carson referred to Boko Haram as “a loosely-organized group” that was “focused primarily on local Nigerian issues and actors.” Carson left the targeting of Christians unmentioned, saying it was “important to note that religion is not the primary driver behind extremist violence in Nigeria.” The State Department official said that the Obama Administration “hopes to focus on education and social programs in the North” rather than invest in security for persecuted Christians."

Yes, the United States condemns all the bad things happening anywhere in the world, because if our civil servants miss anything, someone pops up and asks why the United States government hasn't spoken up about X...
...but unless we are ready to send in the marines, or have some other good leverage to insert, we really ought to just shut up and say nothing.
If asked, the standard answer should be "It's deplorable, of course, but we are in no position to prevent it, so the best possibility is not to waste paper on official proclamations of condemnation. As John Adams remarked, 'The United States goes no forth seeking dragons to slay'."
Let me be clear. I am not for sending the Marines to Nigeria. I am for sending them to Wrigley Field.
