Obama Asks Medvedev for More Space Until After Election

So what are we to make of President Obama's caught on open mic statement to Russian president Medvedev that after the elections, he can be more flexible (on our missile defense in Europe)?

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2012/03/26/obama-tells-medvedev-hell-have-more-flexibility-after-election-during-missile/?test=latestnews

Well, let's see. Maybe it means we can increase our import of Russian vodka after Obama wins re-election in November. Maybe it means after November, Stolichnaya can once again increase the proof in their flavored vodkas from the current 70 proof back to 80 proof. All of that would be great news. I have always wanted to try that Cherry vodka, but not at 70 proof, be jeezuz.

"Here, here!"

(Or is it, "hear, hear"? I'm sure Siarlys knows.)*

But alas, we must return to the real world of Obama's Chamberlainesque foreign policy and assume it means that after November, he will be able to give the store away to the Russians, vodka and all as he makes a deal to cave in on our missile defense system in Europe. I realize it is a stretch to think that, but hell, that's what the topic of discussion was about. Anyway, that will make the Russians happy, and since it is Obama's last election, there's nothing we can do about it in 2016.

"Ah wunnerful, ah wunnerfuil, ah."

And what do we get out of such a deal?

Yummy!

* Who is Siarlys, you ask?

You don't wanna know.

Thank you Commander-in-Chief, for selling out America's security. I am sure that all the anti-war Progressives/Marxist/Communists/Obama voters will be thrilled at this move.

Second shot at BHO,

The following is the oath of office for the President of the United States of America:
"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."
with this oath, the President is bound to keep the Unites States of America safe and secure. With his little open "mic" gaffe, he reveals that he will be freer to do his bidding with Russia, on missile defense. He has already thrown the European countries under the bus with his missile deal earlier in his administration. Now, it appears that he will go even further with his dismantling our defenses, as he did in Europe's missile defense.
Think of this: Russia and china have been helping Iran with their Nuke program. China has sold ICBMs to Iran. I ask for what purpose. If Obama shares misslile information with Russia, which he did earlier, think about this information getting in the hands of Iran. Let us review, Iran has ICBM capabilty and will get missile defense information from Russia. Does this make you feel real secure and is this the way BHO swears (or affirms) that he will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States?

Gary's getting a little incoherent today. I can't exactly tell what he's saying, so I can't reply to it. I'm sure Squid is wrong--he must have been reading an old copy of "The Red President." Except Putin isn't exactly a working class hero. He's the man who said "without the Komsomols, I don't see any way to socialize our youth except through the church." I would love for Obama to be a good deal more red, but he isn't. Since Mitt Romney isn't either, I don't think that's the issue.

Perhaps President Obama was saying, he doesn't want to make such an important decision by constantly looking over his shoulder to see what the latest well-funded lying sound byte might be. He wants to deal with it when he can sit down and think about what's best for the country.

Siarlys,

So much for depending on you for an answer.

I'm incoherent?

Are you insinuating that Obama has not had time (3 years) to think about a missile defense system for Europe?

Obama has always been clear that he wants and sees the US in a more diminished role in the world. He says as much in his speeches and his solution to budget crises by reducing military spending. Inordinately.

It doesn't surprise me that he would signal Putin that he would be a lot more flexible about our nuclear shield after the election. What else will he do after the election but can't do now because if the people knew they would never be elected?

I believe Obama when he says he needs more time and space after the election. He will get both. More time for golf, more room to move in, more time for policy speeches. All this for an EX-PRESIDENT.

Gary, this has been an issue since Obama was in high school. I still haven't made up my mind what is the best policy to pursue, and I'm older than he is.

But the real consideration is, if he agrees to limit the total number of missiles to 158, there will be some well funded sound byte saying he caved in to Medvedev's demand to halt production of over 24,387 missiles that were vital to American security. Where would they get that number from? After the election, someone will reply "That is the number of missiles that would have been produced over the next 67 years in the five existing plants and the fifteen other plants that might have been built if the U.S. government were prepared to offer contracts for that many missiles."

Thus, its best to wait until after the election.
