More on Farrakhan at Berkeley

Hat tip to ProIsraelCTU

Here is a CBS report on Saturday's appearance by Louis Farrakahn at UC Berkeley. Note that the clip of his speech does not include his anti-Semitic words nor his joke about Asians. Also note what some UCB administrator has to say.

Loraine Binion, the woman who made that asinine statement about Farrakhan, is the head of Finance and Administration for the UC Berkeley Foundation.

Right, Loraine. And Hitler built the Autobahns, while Mussolini made the trains run on time. You have to take the good with the bad, you know.

Farrakahn should send you a thank you note for giving him so much free press.

It's not Farrakhan I'm trying to publicize here. It is UC Berkeley.

How is UC Berkeley in any way responsible for what speaker(s) student organizations choose to bring to campus? As juvenile and despicable as Farrakhan's remarks are, he still has a right to free speech, which the University has pledged to uphold equally for everyone. I don't see why that is so hard for you to understand. Are you familiar with the first amendment to the United States Constitution?

Anonymous,

Amazing how you critics misinterpret things. I have never said that Farrakhan does not have the right to speak. Yes, I know full well what the 1st Amendment is. I also have my first amendment rights to say what I think of him and the BSU's choice of speakers. The Pres of UC and the Chancellor of Berkeley also their first amendment rights to counter Farrakhan with their condemnation of what he says and stands for. Unfortunately, too many university administrators choose not to exercise their own right of free speech. Yudof has given a timid response and Birgeneau (as far as I know) has said nothing.

So let m,e breaK IT DOWN FOR YOU, aNONYMOUS.

1 Farrakhan has the right to speak.

2 I have the right to criticize what he says.

I have the right to criticize the BSU for bringing such a hate monger to speak.

Get it?

Then how does "UC Berkeley" figure into this? You said it's "UC Berkeley" you are trying to publicize.

One wonders why anyone bothers to give this nasty little man any coverage at all. Let him shrivel up in his little corner.

The event took place at UC Berkeley.

"The event took place at UC Berkeley."

And... ? So... ?

We've already established that the UC has a neutral stance on speakers that student groups bring on to campus, in an effort to uphold free and equal speech for all. We even seem to agree on that fact.

So again, the even took place at UC Berkeley. And... ? So... ?

Anonymous,

and Yudof and Birgeneau didn't have the stones to go there and express their own freedom of speech in defense of their Jewish, gay, Asian and caucasian students.
