Christmas in a "Sovereign, Stable and Self-Reliant"* Iraq

* The words President Obama used to describe Iraq in his address to US Army troops at Ft Bragg, NC last week.

CNN has a timely report on the situation of the Iraqi Christians now that the American military has left Iraq. The Iraqi Jews have long since been driven out of Iraq, as they have virtually all Arab lands. Now the Iraqi Christians seem to find themselves in the same situation as the Coptic Christians in Egypt.

And today comes the news that 27 people were murdered in church bombings in Nigeria. What kind of sick, perverted rationale can lead people to do these heinous crimes?

One more reason we should have left Hussein al-Takriti alone. At least he protected the Christian minority, and employed many of them in his administration. Secular Arab nationalism was a great thing for Arabic Christians.

In the unfortunately complex ways of a cold cruel world, these Christians you now shed tears for did NOT stand up for Israel. But then, if they had, Hussein might not have lavished high offices upon them. What can you do?
