Apologist for Holy Land Foundation

noor elashi 1

Noor Elashi

"My father will not be forgotten. released."

One of my co-respondents, Matan, sent this to me. He said I would LOVE this article. He is wrong. I HATE it, but I'm going to post it because I think the public has to know about the Holy Land Foundation.

By way of introduction, Ghassan Elashi was the major figure in the Holy Land Foundation trial in the Northern District of Texas (Dallas), in which he and other co-conspirators were convicted for sending funding to terrorist groups in the Middle East under the guise of various charities. In this article, his daughter, Noor, defends the Holy Land Foundation and describes the prosecution (under the Bush administration, naturally) as just another attempt to suppress Muslims. The below article is published in Mondoweiss.

No matter what Ms Elashi has to say, her father's appeal with the 5th Circuit Court has failed. He will continue to sit in federal prison. In addition, it has been reported that the US Attorney's Office in Dallas has prepared more indictments arising out of the Holy Land Foundation trial-indictments that reportedly include at least one major CAIR figure. It has also been reported that the Holder Justice Dept. has quashed the indictment.

For now.

Hopefully, if Obama is defeated, we can get a real Justice Department back in operation that will allow the Dallas case to be prosecuted. Then Ms Elashi can write another article expressing her outrage.

I've lived long enough to learn that anyone with any political loyalties, left, right and center, can spin a good story to defend one of their own, guilty or innocent, when prosecuted by one of The Others. I've also lived long enough to learn that there are two kinds of people who proclaim their innocence: guilty parties and innocent parties, which is what makes law enforcement, and fair trials, so difficult.

I expect that this lady is sincerely devoted to her father, probably believes his work was praiseworthy, may or may not consider that some of his work was indeed supporting terrorism. No doubt there was a good deal of genuine charity as well.

Conversely, those who wish to passionately denounce a convicted Other will refuse to believe there is any credibility at all to their story.

I wouldn't be surprised if some of the staff of the prosecuting attorney's office targeted Muslims. That doesn't mean the targeted Muslims were pure and innocent. I wouldn't be surprised if Attorney General Holder restrained further prosecutions. That may also have been unwise, but may be an appropriate caution given all the political cross-currents involved.

As for the 2012 election, given the pack of clowns running for the Republican nomination, I suspect you are whistling in the wind, but, punditry of any nature is premature. What really matters is how the 20 percent of voters who are ideologically uncommitted feel when they wake up the morning of the election.

Too bad Noor,

Your Hamas supporting Dad is in jail for funding a terrorist group in Gaza. That is a No-No in the U.S.A.
Hamas routinely fires rockets into two southern cities in Israel, which targets elementary schools and civilian homes. Hopefully your Dad stays in jail for a very long time for his transgressions.

Sorry, Gary, I don't get the part where you say Matan says you will "love" this article. I noodled around this mondoweiss website and it appears to be extremely left wing and anti-Israel.

IF Matan is suggesting that the Holy Land Foundation conspirators were unfairly prosecuted or were convicted without cause (as Noor Elashi maintains) then we have a major problem.

Matan works for an important Jewish organization and is the "poster boy" supporter for OTI. If this pro-Palestinian orientation is communicated in any way through his efforts or through OTI then the Jewish Community ought to know about it.

I just don't understand from what you wrote what his take on this article is or why he sent it to you.

Miggie,

That is a question you must ask Matan. I do not go to other websites without a purpose to highlight how outrageous their views are. previously, I never even heard of Mondoweiss.

Gary, you neglected to drool over what ravishing good looks this woman displays. Are your tastes limited to Israeli Arab lesbian soldiers?

Looks are only skin deep. Arab-Israeli lesbian soldiers? Intriguing.

Intriguing? It was your own previous post that brought the concept to our attention...
