One New Heart Needs a Vehicle

As you know, I often post news on the great work being done by Hank Dannecker and his family for One New Heart in Israel. This program offers free corrective heart surgery for Palestinian children combined with pro-bono work done by Israeli surgeons. Their link is on the right hand side of the site.

The Danneckers spend a lot of time driving from Israel proper into the disputed territories transporting the children and their families to and from the hospital. They have reached the point where they need a replacement vehicle. Thus, I am posting this letter to Hank's supporters asking for donations. A sturdy vehicle is crucial to their mission.

Dear Team,

Many of you are asking the question: where do we stand in regards to a vehicle?

We have rented a small car for one month until we have the resources in hand to purchase a new car. The rental fee is the cheapest we could find and it is $655. a month. The good news is we have cut our fuel expense in half; the bad news is we know how the lady felt that lived in the shoe with all her children. : )

Here is what our homework has revealed:

After looking around for a vehicle for one week we have been slightly discouraged. Because of 18% sales tax and the import tariff, vehicles are, in most cases double of the USA. So we have come to the conclusion that a van is out of the question for right now. Stripped vans start at $50,000.

We have moved on in our thinking and have decided to revamp what we can and cannot do as far as ministry is concerned. We cannot do the same things that we do now with a car, as opposed to our van so our ministry will need to adapt until God provides. But we also don't want to get back into a used vehicle that leaves us in unsafe places at all times of the night.

We have also discovered that all vehicles are brought into the country by leasing agencies.

So we went directly to them and they are willing to sell us a car wholesale but as a second owner, them being the first. It is brand new with three years warranty and the cost will be about $27,000. with all taxes and import fees. A savings of about $5000.

We believe this is more reasonable and just more prudent.

We would still be able to go into the west bank to the children's homes (you cannot drive a rented car into the west bank, it needs be owned privately) just not with the whole family or team.

But we will also save money on fuel ($9-$10.00 a gallon) so we will have more resources on hand to help the children we serve.

The good news is that two donations have already come in totalling $10,250. So the outstanding need is $16,750.

We have decided that we will wait upon the Lord to supply this rather large need, so a savings account has been opened by our sending church. We will not jump into a hasty decision; reliable, safe transportation is vital to our ministry need.

If you choose to give financially toward the vehicle fund, here is the address and pertinent information:

Checks can be made payable to: Clear Creek BIC Church, in the memo write: Vehicle Fund/1 New Heart

I love that baby picture. Don't you think she deserves her own country to grow up in? "Disputed territories" ... what is the dispute?

I think Judea and Samaria are ancient Jewish homelands.

Yes and California is the ancient homeland of someone who might not want you around either, except conveniently for you, they HAVE all been driven into the sea!

What spot on earth has been turned over to some new immigrants because "Until about 2000 years ago our ancestors lived here"?

There are good arguments for sustaining Israel, but that is dust and hot air.

Excellent idea. Israel is currently refusing to negotiate. They think they can sit on their marbles forever. They are tragically wrong. Nor are they the heroic little underdog any more.

Anyway, that's a really cute baby in the photo.
