Obama's Guidelines on How to Observe 9-11

Hat tip to Politico

Never forget

God only knows what will play out when we observe the 10th anniversary of 9-11. President Obama, as previously reported here, has set out government guidelines and talking points. Not only do we omit Israel from a list of other countries that have been victimized by terror, but we are supposed to downplay the role of Al Qaida. Next, we will be blaming 9-11 on the French Foreign Legion or right-wing extremists. We certainly don't want to upset our Saudi "allies". (15 of the 19 hijackers were Saudi nationals.)

It is becoming increasingly apparent that Obama wants to downplay any aspect of 9-11 that will re-spark anger in the American people. What we can expect from officialdom are abstract references to the tragedy without mentioning specifically who did it. Is he afraid Americans will go out and harm innocent Muslims? We have already proven we will not. We are better than that. We have shown that we can separate the innocent from the guilty.

Here is the reaction of Dr Zuhdi Jasser of the American Islamic Forum for Democracy to these Orwellian guidelines.

Keep in mind, Dr Jasser, a true moderate Muslim, was included on that list of "Islamophobes" put out by the despicable Iranian-run Press TV in the past days.

If all that isn't bad enough, the family survivors of 9-11 have yet to even receive their invitations to the commemoration in New York. They have been assured that they "are in the mail". We already know that first responders and religious figures will not be invited thanks to NY Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

So how will the 9-11 event in New York be held? Will it feature the ever-pontificating President Obama, the feckless Janet Napolitano, plus a host of politicians, Hollywood celebrities and assorted VIPs?

What an insult.

The administration has it backward:

It was not some vague shadowy, nebulous entity called "Terror," as the Bush administration put it, nor was it Islam, it was, quite specifically, an organization called al Qaeda.

I have doubts that President Obama has really given much thought or attention to what page the government should be on. Whoever was tasked with doing so is serving him rather badly. But I suggest once again that there should be NO categorical official observance to get everyone on the same page with. Let every locality, every private voluntary organization, do whatever they want to do to observe the day. Obviously, Americans as a whole agree on very little about it.

I would agree though that there is no point in whipping up public anger. I mean, we all know the event took over 3000 lives, took down two buildings, and made travelling by air a living hell for everyone. Do we need to spend the day talking about that?

September 11 is a Sunday. I doubt that I will do anything different. I will go to church, play a few games of chess, take a friend of mine lunch during her 16 hour nursing shift, and leave a few comments at Fousesquawk.
