Is it just me, or is it proper for the Commander-in-Chief to be running off and pitching his latest "jobs" scam instead of being in the White House and monitoring this reported 9-11 threat? Today, he was selling his snake oil at the University of Richmond while his government is running around dealing with this latest terror threat.
Like many of you, I watched Obama's speech before Congress last night. Talk about style over substance! Stylewise, it was a good speech. Substance-wise, it left a lot to be desired. Sure, he made a couple of good points about lowering payroll taxes and giving tax breaks to employers who hire workers. Still, we are talking about another (450 billion dollar) spending package with no details on how we are going to pay for it. That answer will come in two weeks I guess, but Congress should pass it right away! He repeated that about 17 times. Maybe it was a haiku.
Silly me. The Chinese will loan us the money.
Speaking of the Chinese, I hear Jeffrey "Chinese Jobs Bill" Immelt was up in the gallery with the first lady. After ruining GE, Immelt was brought to the White House to advise Obama on how to ruin the US. I also think I caught a glimpse of LA Mayor Tony Villaraigosa, who reportedly wrangled an invitation when he should be back in LA, a city that is crumbling under his inept leadership. On second thought, stay in Washington, Tony. Lots of girls in those government agencies, you know, and they all head to Georgetown at night. Yes, I also know that from personal experience.
While waiting for the big show, I watched the Al Sharpton warm up act on MSNBC. What a joke. I should have realized that this show is sponsored by Rosetta Stone and Al is giving us a one-hour total immersion lesson in some unknown language. His poor guests can't give him a straight answer because they don't know what he is saying. Here is an example:
What does the below word in Sharptonese mean in English?
"Approo"
a- apple
b- a prude
c- a prune
d- approve
If you took a wild guess and said, "approve", you would be a winner.
Anyway, Sharpton proceeded to "chair" a round table discussion about the great president's "momentous" speech that was coming. Who was on the round-table? You don't want to know, but you could easily guess.
I must make a note to get in touch with my former colleague Nick Trotta. Nick was stationed in Milan with the Secret Service when I was there with DEA. We both worked in the US Consulate. He went on to become the head of the presidential guard detail, and I went on to become an obscure blogger. Anyway, my suggestion to Nick is this: If you want to eliminate that absurd custom of the President being swarmed by back-slappers as he walks up the aisle to the podium and back, why not name it "Brownnosers Blvd?
(I need to get a recent photo of Nick because if that bald guy at the bottom of the photo is him, he sure has changed.)
I may be biased, but did you see the Democrats' side of the aisle last night? Maybe we should do a breakdown on the age demographics. The average age of the Dems has to be about 89. But they sure were vocal. It may have looked like a Lawrence Welk show, but it sounded like a high school football game with all those cheers and Dems jumping up like they were doing the wave. I guess you're only as old as you feel, right?

As one of the few people who thinks that George W. Bush did the right thing by finishing reading the story to the elementary school children, even after the news of 9/11 was whispered in his ear, I think President Obama is doing just fine continuing to worry about American jobs, rather than hunkering down and holding the entire business of the American people hostage to a potential terror threat.
Any former DEA agent ought to know that at this point, the actual work of thwarting the attack is the business of trained, experienced, specialists and experts. The president can get reports wherever he is, but he would just get in the way running in and out of the investigation.
Incidentally, I read the transcript of the speech. Excellent job. I've written both my senators to tell them to vote for the bill. It won't be enough, but its about the best our government can do to help right now.
I anticipate that Obama will end up running a Harry Truman style campaign against the do-nothing congress, and win handily.
President Obama and his Administration absolutely amaze me. I cannot stop shaking my head in confusion. We have evidence that his last “Stimulus” bill was not effective, as he admitted with his “not shovel ready” comment. So, he now wants to spend more money, 450 billion worth, to stimulate the economy. One asks the question, did he find new shovel ready jobs to stimulate this economy? This new stimulus bill is exactly what the voters do not want, as polls show the disdain over the failure of the last 830 billion dollar stimulus bill. Obama said he wants this new bill to stimulate clean energy jobs. Did he miss the information on the bankruptcy of the windmill factory that got the wind knocked out of it, to the tune of over 500 billion dollars? Last, while he is stimulating the economy, his DOJ is putting Gibson guitar out of business because there is a dispute over ebony wood from Madagascar. Madagascar has no problem with selling wood to Gibson, but the DOJ has said that they should move the company to Madagascar, if they want to continue to manufacture Guitars with there wood. This would be a loss of 600 jobs Mr. President.
I am still shaking my head.
