"Extra! Extra! Read all about it!"
"Attention Mr and Mrs America and all ships at sea."
The news is coming in that the Libyan rebels are in Tripoli and meeting little resistance as they advance to the city center. In addition, it is reported that they have captured one of Muammar Ghaddafi's sons, Saif al Islam.
Meanwhile, minutes ago, Ghaddafi (who swore to fight to the death) appeared on state TV demanding to know how the Libyan people could have allowed this to happen and demanding that Libyans converge on Tripoli to rescue the regime.
However, the BBC is reporting that Ghaddafi has already fled to Algeria.
Well, it is the BBC, you know. God only knows what MSNBC is reporting. Hell, he could be vacationing in Martha's Vineyard, for all we know, bejeezus.
That reminds me that President Obama is currently vacationing in Martha's Vineyard.
Not to worry, however. The President is getting moment by moment, up-to-the- minute updates. (I have to watch those redundancies. I am an English teacher, after all.)

"White House Deputy Press Secretary Josh Earnest said in a statement today that the briefing by adviser John Brennan included input from security personnel in Benghazi."
John Brennan!?!? Now that's reassuring.
"Don't worry. I got it under control."
Senator John Kerry of Massachusetts, Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, is also being kept in the loop.
"Hey Senator. Ghaddafi's fled Libya."
As is Secretary of State Hillary Clinton pictured below with another one of Ghaddafi's sons, bejeezuz.
"So how is your Dad doing?"
Of course, the President is being criticized by certain voices for continuing his vacation while this (and the economic mess) is going on.
I am not one of those voices.
What the Hell can he do, anyway?
Besides, yours truly has canceled all vacations in order that I, your humble servant, may remain at my post and bring you up to date reports on the latest developments in Libya as soon as they occur.
Now that you are up-to-date, I will take a short break and be right back.
(My waitress will let me know if there are any new developments.)
PS: A provisional toast to the rebels, whoever the Hell they are. The beer's on me.

I thought you might be saying something I could compliment you for Gary, but apparently you are so embarrassed by the hole you dug yourself in with your months of belittling the efforts of the Libyan people to be rid of Qadaffi, that you can't show the same integrity you have on other matters recently.
Someday you may admit it: President Obama pursued a prudent course, in cooperation with our NATO allies, which is having the desired result. No, there is nothing more he can do now. He's already done the right thing. It is, as it always was, up to people in Libya to make the most of it.
Siatlys,
Have you no sense of humot?
I'm sure I could say a few things in a vein of humor about John Boehner that would draw a serious tirade from you about the implications.
Your choice of theme, and the manner in which you employed it, is in poor taste, to say the least, and in marked contrast to your recent comments on Syria.
Findalis, keep it up, and your nightmare will come true. All it takes to bring jihadist regimes to power throughout the middle east is to write off every popular uprising as inherently jihadist. Eventually, the people on the ground will get the message, and join the jihadis, because we abandoned them.
With friends like you, Israel doesn't need to worry about enemies.

Read the following: Libyan Draft Constitution: Sharia is ‘Principal Source of Legislation’
Women have no rights, minority religions have no rights, rape to be punished by stoning. Democracy according to Siarlys.
I am awaiting your apology Siarlys.
Try holding your breath while you wait Findalis.
A draft constitution is a draft constitution. There is all kinds of politics in play holding a coalition together. There are as many interpretations of Sharia as there are Christian denominations. What it means is what people want it to mean as things settle down. Imagine what the European constitution would read like if the Pope got to write it. Not my cup of tea, but probably not a return to Torquemada either. For one thing, the Roman Church now condemns torture.
Why do I bring up the RC church? Simple. Its canons are to Christianity what the advocates of a caliphate are to Islam, only mostly declawed and defanged. Muslims who want to play rough will find a way to justify it in Shariah, and those who don't, will find a way to justify peace and love, just like Christians do. And I'm sure you don't advocate killing anyone down to the last man, woman, child, and beast do you? That's in your holy writ.
Want to make a bet that if the rebels succeed they will be another Islamic state? Egypt is becoming one, Syria will become one, Lebanon is one, all they need is Jordan to fall.
Findalis,
I agree. All this talk of democracy is ridiculous. Yes, I wanted Ghaddafi to fall and I hope they string him up for PA 103.
I don't have any illusions as to any of these countries. Yet, you have to credit the Syrian protestors.
Am I in the way?
I'm not sure anything any of us say in cyberspace means anything at all to what happens in the real world. But, to the extent this conversation has any significance at all, you talk as if it would be a good thing if the uprisings never happened, its too bad they are happening, we as a nation should lend them no support because bad things are going to happen in the end, and if we can put them in reverse, we should. Square that for Findalis.
