Fast and Furious and $10 Million From the Stimulus Package

Hat tip to Hot Air

Allahpundit at Hot Air has an interesting article regarding $10,000,000 that was earmarked in the Stimulus Bill for ATF to run Operation Gunrunner (Fast and Furious).

http://hotair.com/archives/2011/07/07/too-bad-to-check-project-gunrunner-was-funded-by-the-stimulus/

"For an additional amount for ‘‘State and Local Law Enforcement Assistance’’, $40,000,000, for competitive grants to provide assistance and equipment to local law enforcement along the Southern border and in High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas to combat criminal narcotics activity stemming from the Southern border, of which $10,000,000 shall be transferred to ‘‘Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Salaries and Expenses’’ for the ATF Project Gunrunner."

And what has that $10,000,000 stimulated? At last count, two dead Border Patrol agents and about 150 Mexicans on the south side of our border.

And you tell me that Eric Holder and the big-wigs at DOJ had no knowledge of this operation?

As a former federal agent, this makes me sick to my stomach.

Gary, as a former federal agent you ought to know that the "stimulus" effect is to keep border agents employed who might otherwise be out of work.

You still haven't explained how the killers of those two agents wouldn't likely have gotten their hands on some other guns if these particular guns hadn't been available. Read Miggie's material on the "guns don't kill people, people kill people" theme, and apply it to this situation.

The point of the operation is to find the way to cut a large scale flow, not to pick these two guns out of circulation.

Anything that provided bad publicity for the Obama administration would make you say something about being sick to your stomach... are you sure it isn't a lingering effect from too many beers?

Siarlys,

Over 1,300 weapons were involved here.

Siarlys,

That's like saying if OJ hadn't murdered his wife, someone else would have. You amaze me.

So, this is what Obama calls "Shovel Ready"?

This "Fast and Furious" operation is a scandal. The more information that is coming forth, the more it points to a nefarious plot to create a gun ownership crisis. You all know: "Never waste a crisis". This manufactured gun crisis is to push Obama's anti-gunner ideology, which has been part of him, ever since he started in politics. This whole operation will be a problem for high level political operatives, including those in the White House.

Siarlys, for all your numerous defenses of the Obama administration, it was amazing that you would write that you "despise" liberals on another thread.

This program started as a bad idea that was made worse in an inept execution. There is no conflict to hold that "people kill people" simultaneously with the view that it is a bad idea to sell guns to bad people.

Gary, if you can't tell the difference between the GUN used in the murder and the PERSON who pulled the trigger, then you really need to retire. (If OJ hadn't had the knife, he might have bought a gun, would be the proper analogy).

Were 1300 border patrol agents killed?

Miggie, when this phase of American history is history, perhaps I will share with you the letters I have occasionally sent in response to the volume of solicitations I received in the mail from the DNC, or my letter to the ACLU about why I decline their unsolicited invitation to become a member. For right now, I wouldn't want it to fall into the hands of worse people.

There are things I would have done differently than Obama has, IF it could have been done differently. It's easy to dream, more difficult to hold the office and make a huge bureaucracy respond to direction.

But the main reason I vote Democratic is that the Republicans are offering sheer lunacy, as my favorite conservative, David Brooks, recently pointed out.
