So far, it is estimated that Syrian forces have killed hundreds of Syrians during the protest, they have just tortured a 13-year-old boy to death, and the country is de-stabilizing Lebanon by propping up Hezbollah, which it supplies with weapons. So Assad needs to lead the reform or get out of the way according to Her Nibs.
Assad must be shaking in his boots.

Or did you just mean that if we are not in a position to invade a country, we should maintain COMPLETE SILENCE as to the deplorable acts of the reigning dictator???

But the question remains Gary, if YOU were Secretary of State, what would you have to say to or about the government of Syria?
As you are probably aware, the secretary of state can't use that language openly in public statements. She can't use it in closed meetings unless she is certain that WikiLeaks will not ever ever get hold of the transcript.
I think the words she chose are about as close as a public statement can reasonably get to exactly what you just said -- which, on the level of individual and unofficial free speech between two citizens, is a pretty good way of putting it.
