I regret to inform the Olive Tree Initiative and the Jewish Federation of Orange County that Israel has just arrested Aziz Dweik (aka Duwaik). Pajamas Media is reporting the arrest and the OTI connection.

In case you forgot, this is the high-ranking Hamas official that the 2009 Olive Tree Initiative students met with in the West Bank. It was the recent revelation of that meeting that caused a furor here in the Orange County community. Only thanks to a freedom of information request filed at UC-Irvine was this meeting brought to light with the discovery of a letter written to UCI Chancellor Michael Drake from the Federation complaining about the meeting with a Hamas official (previously reported here).
Another significant point is that the Federation never disclosed the existence of this meeting or their own letter to UCI to their community even as they were trashing a community activist who was complaining about the involvement of so many figures associated with the International Solidarity Movement in the OTI program.
Now we learn that Dweik, once again, is in Israeli custody.
