"Hello, Campus Police? I wanna report a fire."
This is just a short post which will be supplemented later. Wednesday, the community showed up to support Israel. I would say about 50-70 people. Matan Cohen was the speaker and he was dismantled and embarrassed in the Q and A and subsequent back and forth. I will have additional photos and video.
Young Matan Cohen getting a few pointers from the Old Ranger.
Hedy Epstein was speaking that evening, but I skipped it to go to UCLA and hear David Horowitz speak.
Of note is that some person tipped off the campus police that these commnunity people would be a mob dedicated to disrupting the event and causing trouble. Of course that never happened. The police were out in force, we cooperated with them fully, and there were no incidents. The "mob" was made up almost entirely of older folks and most of them were women.
So who was the anonymous person who tipped off the police with this false information in an effort to discredit the protesters?

The "anonymous person" was no doubt an employee of the same covert p.r. firm that "tipped off" people in Manhattan that Cordoba House was "the second wave of 9/11."
Please don't tell us that "the community" turned out to support Israel. That's like a politician saying that "the people want..." whatever that politician is pushing. If 60% of "the people" vote for a candidate, it is considered a landslide, because "the community" never agrees on anything.
Seventy-five odd resident of the local community turned out to support Israel.
Embarrassed? I think you got it all wrong, Cohen was anything but embarrassed, the questions that you in particular ask are thoughtless. Matan Cohen's whole point is that there shouldn't be an Apartheid wall or "fence" and that if Israel was a real democracy that they would show Palestinians the same equal rights to Israeli citizens.
Anonymous,
My points with Matan were about the comments he made at UCI several weeks ago about Israel supporters deserving to not feel intimidated or comfortable on campus, deserving to be disrupted, and his phrase "useless discourse". I did not attempt to debate his points about the Israelis vi-s vis the Palestinians. Matan had no defense for the issues I raised. My points were hardly thoughtless. Any normal person would be offended if someone from another country came here and started lecturing us on who does and does not have the right to speak.
Wise up.
I will not be so gracious about Matan. This 22 year old is wet behind the ears and lacks the experience in order to appear as an expert on the issues. In my opinion, this boy has had some very disappointing experiences in his homeland of Israel and needs to vent his vitriolic spew against his State. Much of what he shared has no truth in the face of history. Of course, this is grist for the Muslim Brotherhood, Islamist jihadists. They exploit Matan's issues by parading his problems at UCI.

Since I don't know where to put this, I'll just post it here.

Michael Oren wrote a piece for the LA Times. The MSU were not able to yell at him repreatedly to shut him up.
The comments after the article make me sad. So many people don't have a problem with HAMAS. It is disturbing.
If HAMAS renounced violence and said they would accept the exsitence of Israel and would agree to the previous treaties, many people would be thrilled with this unity. But HAMAS has never shown they are willing to recognize Israel as a Jewish state, so this unity is not celebrated.
Gary Fouse is a gutsy man.
And by gutsy I mean he has a huge gut. That is one big spare tire on you Fouse.
Best get yourself a membership to a gym quick, and also considering getting some class and stop messing around with young students.
Pervert.
Anonymous,
You are right about one thing. I do have to watch that gut. As for messing with young students, I assume you mean Mr Cohen. Sorry, but he has chosen to enter the arena, disrupt sppeches, and make speeches so he must answer the hard questions too. If you are referring to the young (MSU) students at UCI, you are wrong because I do not bother them.
Anyway, who are you to talk about guts and class and call people perverts while hiding behind the anonymous label. I respect Cohen at least for sticking his head out there. That's more than one can say for you....

It's odd that there are numerous officially named "Islamic" states in the world and there is no objection from anyone that I know of. Yet if one state decides to call itself a "Jewish State" it is the cause for outrage.
As a matter of fact, there is no requirement that citizens be Jewish. Some 20% or more of the population are Arab, primarily Muslim, and Christian as well as any number of other religions. The only things that the Jewish religion supposedly "controls" is the religious determination of who is a Jew, and such religious things as the authenticity of Jewish marriages. While most retail businesses are closed on the Jewish Sabbath, the penalty for remaining open is so small that a lot of places stay open for extra business on that day. Most of the citizens are secular but have a Jewish identity.
If you compare and contrast that with Islamic countries you will see that it is vastly different. The Koran is the Law in those countries and the penalties for adultery, homosexuality, blasphemy, etc. are very severe... i.e. punishable by execution.
There is no comparison between the self-proclaimed religious states.
.
The anonymous person who tipped off the police may have been the same person who first announced that Cordoba House is "the second wave of 9/11."
This Matan Cohen is a VERY YOUNG man who obviously hasn't had much responsibility in his life yet. Playing with words when you have no experience with substance is dangerous.
But please don't say that "the community" came out to support Israel. Some 75 people who live in the community came out to support Israel. Nobody who claims to speak for "The People" or "The Community" really does so. Whether its the "Peoples Republic" or the Republicans saying that "the people want" whatever they're pushing this year, "the people" are in reality a diverse polyglot bunch who change their minds all the time, and at best only approximate a rough consensus.
