There is not much I can add to the sad story in Japan. My heart is certainly with the Japanese people, and I support President Obama's promise to give Japan whatever it needs. Of course, that is what America does and what America is.
At the UC-Irvine Extension, where I teach English to foreign students, we have many Japanese students. We have made it a point to reach out to them to make sure their families are OK and that they are in touch with them. We have also made our office available to call back to Japan. It appears from what I can ascertain that all of our students' families are fine.
