Southern Illinois University Cancels Christmas Carols

Well, here we go again. Now Southern Illinois University has caved in to student complaints and cancelled Christmas music from the campus clock tower in the name of "being more inclusive".

"We got a complaint about not being inclusive in the music,"

"Students who were on the campus from across the world raised the issue and we're trying to be as responsive as possible and as inclusive," she told Fox News Radio. "Christmas is a wonderful time of year and we don't want to dampen the spirit and the good will people have."

Here is the "vision statement" of  SUI President Glenn Poshard

I can hardly wait to see what songs they'll come up with that will not be so "exclusive". In fact, I have a suggestion:

"Grandma got run over by a raindeer". Hopefully, that won't offend anybody.

This is a bit surprising from the home of the Salukis.

I love "Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer."

I also love "See Amid the Winter Snows" - although we all know there was no snow in Bethlehem circa 6 B.C. or for many years thereafter, even before Global Warming.

I also love "The Holly and the Ivy," although any informed person knows it is based on pre-Christian Celtic pagan icons.

Finally, if a theater major at Perdue University can produce the blasphemous play "Corpus Christi," regardless of who it might offend, then Christmas carols can be sung from the bell tower of Southern Illinois University. Anyone who has another perspective to offer can sing their own. That would be diversity. Sorry about the long link, but more on "Corpus Christi" here:
